Week of June 27th

We will be making boxes next week, July 4th. There will be all sorts of grillable and awesome veggies in it so you can make delicious things to eat with friends and family. We are in full summer swing here on the farm. I’m happy to have green beans this week as I shed a tear for the snap peas that are no longer around. We are also looking forward to bell peppers and melons in the near future.
If you need to put your share on hold, simply sign into your account here at www.farmigo.com/account/somethinggoodorganics, click on the “delivery hold” tab and enter the dates you need to skip. Just make sure to give us at least 3 days advance notice.
Your avocados and nectarines are ripening up as we speak. We try not to put completely ripe fruit in the box so it doesn’t get damaged in transport, but we’d like to make it ripe enough so you can eat it in the current week. It’s a balancing act to say the least. Keep the fruit on your counter top until you feel it is ripe enough to eat, and then put it into your fridge.

Week of June 20th

It’s the last week for sugar snap peas!! Enjoy them while you can. We will be moving right into green beans in the next few weeks. I’m pleased to introduce you (or reintroduce you if you’ve been a member for a while) to our heirloom tomatoes. Purple Cherokee Tomatoes are very low in acid and super sweet. All tomatoes store best on your counter top. Do not put them into the fridge unless you’ve cut into them, and then try and consume within a day or two.
I just want to make a toast to acorn squash really quickly here as well. It comes and goes really quickly on the farm because it doesn’t store for a long time like a butternut squash. This little squash is extremely nutrient-dense for its size. It has a diverse range of nutrients which are going to benefit your health in a broad way. It is rich in dietary fiber. And for the vitamins and minerals, it has significant levels of vitamin C, vitamin A, thiamin, and other B-family vitamins, and its range of minerals is truly impressive, including potassium, magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, phosphorous, and calcium. So eat up and thank a farmer 😉

Week of June 6

Happy Summer to you. Well, almost. Things are heating up here on the Buellton farm. Tomatoes are right around the corner (yah!). I’m watching the peppers get planted and looking forward to melons next month too. Raspberries and blackberries are starting to make an appearance. It’s all really exciting :D.
Want a free box of veggies? Create something delicious and tag us @somethinggoodorganics on Instagram. Every month we will pick a new winner to receive a complimentary share for themselves or a friend. If you choose to give it away we will deliver it to the lucky recipients house. We believe that there is no better advertising than word of mouth.
The pickling cucumbers you receive in your box this week are just a different variety of cucumber. We didn’t actually make pickles and put them in your box (maybe a future endeavor). They are a little thicker skinned, super crunch and undeniably delicious.
Need more strawberries in your life? Now’s the time to stock up. Check them out in our CSA store. Looking for something you don’t see in the store? Let me know.
