Community Supported Agriculture, or CSA, is a direct link between the farmer and the consumer in order to connect you with the food grown by small, local farms right in your community. Members sign up for a subscription or “share,” and the farm delivers bundles of fruits and vegetables to give their members a great value on high quality produce. CSA produce is harvested within 24 hours of delivery, so members receive the freshest and lowest cost produce easily in the most environmentally friendly way.
Because of the freshness and quality of our produce, you will find it just tastes better. Children can tell the difference too: you might catch an avowed vegetable-hater snacking on a snap pea one day. You are not only supporting the community and good farming practices, but also benefitting from delicious, in-season, certified organic produce on a regular basis.
As a CSA member, you have access to the freshest produce all harvested within 24 hours of delivery at a great price. CSAs connect you to a local farm. You know exactly where your food was grown, and you are supporting a local business. Your vegetables were not trucked across the country; they were grown right in Santa Barbara County on our acreage. No need to worry about when your produce was picked or how long it's been sitting on a shelf. At Something Good Organics, our produce is fresh picked and delivered quickly.
We'll text you a few days before we harvest, and you'll have until 9 pm that evening to add extras to your order, or to notify us if you need to skip the week's share. Please remember to break down and return your reusable wax box from the previous week–we'll recycle and reuse it!
And speaking of skip...
While we'd never advise skipping your veggies, we understand that life gets busy! Every week, you'll receive a text message alert when our harvest starts, with the option to “skip” by 9pm that evening to opt out of the week's order at no charge (full season members will receive a full week's credit to use on their next order).
We work hard to give members the freshest produce at a good price; and in order to do so, we pick seasonal fruits and vegetables within 24 hours of box deliveries. This means we are somewhat on nature’s schedule according to the seasonal harvest. Unfortunately our operation is not large enough to let you pick and choose what goes into your box. Everyone gets the same thing, and we don't allow substitutions within the box. You can, however, customize your box by adding specific produce items such as herbs, eggs, and even fresh bread from Deux Bakery. Visit our farmstand or shop online to see current available add-ons (members only).
There are occasions where the weather or undeterminable events (like the inside of a pepper is rotten) happen. If you receive wilted greens, promptly soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes and spin them dry. They should perk right up as they were harvested within days of receipt. If something is rotten, please notify us as soon as possible so we can seek a replacement.
Weekly newsletters are emailed a couple days before the pick-up. Each newsletter will contain a list of what you can expect in your next box along with some recipes to help with meal planning. There can be surprises to what’s in your box sometimes, but that’s part of the fun. Our blog is also updated weekly with the latest harvest and news.
